Most of the AAWGT Events are open to interested women and members are encouraged to bring friends and prospective members. 

Exceptions are the meetings related to the business of the organization.  These will be noted as "Members Only".

    Liz Garbus created this powerful documentary film that tells the story of two teenagers, Shanae and Megan, and their dramatic journeys through the juvenile justice system and back out on to the bleak streets of East Baltimore, Maryland.  With unprecedented access to the system and to the complex interior lives of the protagonists, the film provides shocking insight into the world of young women struggling just to survive teenhood.

    How Children Succeed

    In How Children Succeed, qualities Tough argues that the qualitities that matter most have more to do with character: skills like perseverance, curiosity, conscientiousness, optimism, and self control.

    Early adversity, scientists have come to understand, can not only affect the conditions of children's lives, it can alter the physical development of educators brains as well.  But now educatiors and doctors around the country are using that knowledge to develop innovative interventions that allow children And overcome the constraints of poverty.  Ane with the help of the new strategies, as Tough's extraordinary reporting makes clear, children who grow up in the most painful circumstances can go on to achieve amazing things.

    The Life You Can Save: How to Do Your Part to End World Poverty by Peter Singer

    For the first time in history, eradicating world poverty is within our reach. Yet around the world, a billion people struggle to live each day on less than many of us pay for bottled water.  In the Life You Can Save, Peter Singer uses ethical arguments, illuminating examples, and case studies of charitable giving to show that our current response to world insufficient is not only insufficent but morally indefensible.  The Life You Can Save teaches us to be a part of the solution, helping others as we help ourselves.
